I have been looking for alternatives to store bought soaps for a long time. Life was always getting in a way and the chemical/additive free soap recipes seemed time consuming or too complex or the ingredients too alien. I now know a few but I keep coming back to this one using castile soap.
You could add few more ingredients (like liquid Vitamin E) or less (some websites would even suggest just using plain castile soap).
Ingredients:
Castile soap (120 mls or 1/2 cup)
Water (360 mls or 1 1/2 cup) - ideally filtered
Fractionated coconut oil, Apricot kernel oil, Almond oil, jojoba etc
Optional: Essential oils of choice
Tools:
Foaming soap dispenser would be ideal - 500 mls for this recipe. You can buy one online (then you can really choose the quality) or just reuse one that you already have at home, from any soap that you may have purchased already.
Simple kitchen funnel would be helpful but not absolutely necessary
Method:
Add 120 mls or 1/2 cup of castile soap (alternatively 1/4 of the volume of the bottle you have)
Add water - 360 mls or 1 and 1/2 cup (or just fill until almost full if you followed alternative method above)
Add carrier oil - 1 tablespoon
Add few drops of essential oils (I like lemongrass, mint, orange). I have seen people using up to 40 drops per 500 ml bottle, but I would be cautious especially if little children are to be using the soap, or if you have sensitive skin
Enjoy!
